Welcome to After the Fires |
|
|
|
|
Our wonderful region has suffered an indescribable devastation by fires, our community fragmented through displacement and so much has been lost. We all need to contribute and drive the rebuild that our community needs so very much. The landscape and nature will regenerate itself, but we must work together if we wish to regenerate our community successfully.
This is one way we can contribute towards our journey to full recovery, a site by the locals for the locals and hopefully a centre for information, news, notices, jobs, local services directories and all the sites you need. Welcome to our future.
Thank you we are so grateful to our fire and emergency services, volunteers, local radio, many individuals and the whole community spirit that has done so much for so many.
Our Vision
The creation of a site that serves everyone in or visiting our community providing a forum for finding other sites, important messages, general notices and news while becoming an electronic hub of information on rebuilding and finding what you need when you need it in free local directories and classifieds. Putting our community back on the world-wide map

It was another very progressive weekend for Marysville and surrounding areas affected by the fires. The MATDG Phoenix workshops continued at the golf club and then out at Stonelea with many in attendance to discuss and review suggestions on a way forward for the Marysville town, complimented by another VIP visitor to the town on Sunday. The iconic golfer Greg Norman and his wife Chris Evert visited Marysville and spoke with several residents before leading a bushfire fundraising golf day at the Heritage Golf Course in the Yarra Valley.
About 250 from our region took coaches or made their own way to the event also attended by the premier John Brumby, all who were entertained by the legendary singers Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel in a surprise visit.

Local Business Special News Features |

The whole objective with this site is the promotion of local business, the beauty of the region, what it has to offer and an effort to keep the region on the much required tourism map. The region has suffered so much pain and loss and the recovery will be prolonged and challenging for so many, but while some rethink and plan their future and consider all options many local businesses who are still able to operate face daily challenges.

On this wet cool Queens Birthday Saturday the road to Lake Mountain was busy with traffic. Many locals and tourists visited the family day with events for all and another great and well planned initiative crucial to the region. With everyone wishing for a great snow season this year this was certainly the beacon by which to kick things off.

As the start of the snow season commenced at Lake Mountain more and more local residents settled into a temporary home of some sort ready for the cold of the winter. While we may desperately need the snow for the winter tourism it brings, for those collecting fire wood and preparing for a harsh cold reality its novelty may soon wear thin. Last week not only did snow settle on and around our mountain peaks and high ground, but a blanket covered Marysville and its surrounding areas. Looking majestic in the trees on a visit up towards Lake Mountain, the harsh reality emerged once more as you descend and see the caravans and devastation around the Marysville town.
However, at Lake Mountain its business as usual and in Marysville, Buxton and Narbethong there are B&B, Motel, Cottage and Caravan accommodation available for you to enjoy the winter snow and scenery. Refreshments and light meals are available at Lake Mountain, at a special purpose heated marquee in Marysville and in various forms in Buxton and Narbethong. Ski and snow gear hire is also available so check out our local directory for all you need or drop us an email if you need further information.
Our wonderful Marysville Market is also back up and running with local produce, plants and much more. Every 2nd Sunday at Gallipoli Park off the main street.
Support local business, support our fire victims. |

Whichever part of the triangle you drive from now you will see more and more blocks are cleared, more for sale board signs are appearing, and more buildings are taking shape as people move on with their lives. As this takes place the real estate activity also accelerates with a greater requirement for real estate searches, sales and advice.
Marysville has its own new real estate team (Marysville triangle real estate) with properties already available and we shall report more on their progress over the coming weeks. LJ Hooker have advised they will have a sales display window in Marysville shortly and Ray White Healesville are planning a Marysville Office.

Marysville Wedding May 16 |
|
|
|
|

Saturday May 16 was another special day for Marysville and a dream come true for a special Marysville couple. Karen Camilleri and Karl Graf were due to marry in Marysville on February 21.
The week of the fires they met with local photographer Dave Nicholson (their wedding photographer)to assess the Crossways venue and capture some beautiful pre-wedding photographs by the Steavenson River. Who could have predicted that days later, while Karen was having a dress fitting near the city, Karl would have to deal with the threat of fire and fatality as their Marysville home was destroyed by the worst bushfire in Australian history.
